Problem & Opportunity

While the Lightning network can provide tremendous value of instant and free payments, the nature of Lightning invoices can be difficult to grasp for the every day Cash App customer.

Our goal was to remove the complexity and make it "just work".

The invoice

Most Lightning network invoices require an amount before being shared. We wanted to give the optionality to users by upping the expiration time.

This would simply allow someone to share a QR code or link for payment - the amount up to the payer.

Pay via link

While not the norm, simply sharing a QR or link without an amount works just as well.

Optionality

By bending the rules of invoice expiration, the requester can choose to add an amount or simply let the payer choose the amount.
